ABOUT THE ARTIST
Peter Faulkner is a realist painter who places emphasis on the figure & portraiture. His works are composed and painted with classical sensibility often with a focus on contemporary themes.
During his early career he applied his artistic abilities in a variety of working environments, from advertising to film & TV. The diversity of jobs allowed him to develop and hone his skills, finally satisfying his artistic needs independently. The human form has always been a topic of focus, which he has explored over time through various media including sculpture and painting. With his primary focus now on portraiture and figurative painting his training in the sight-size technique has served as a valuable foundation allowing him to develop his own more intuitive style and approach. Working in a painterly manner he achieves beauty through an economy of brushstrokes employing a limited colour palette to help unify his works. Portraits are comprised either wholly from life or through a combination of subject sittings and multiple photo references.
Currently based in the UK he works from his studio in South West London, undertaking commissions throughout Europe and America. Peter’s works have been exhibited in many galleries throughout the UK and are held in private collections world-wide.
ARTIST STATEMENT
I am always keen to learn and build on personal experiences sharing them through my art, I endeavour to achieve resonance with others and, perhaps in some small way, make a meaningful difference. I seek to express and communicate through my art the beauty of life, nature and of the human spirit in all its facets.
One of the joys & challenges of portraiture is that every face is different and each person has a unique and personal story to tell. Each subject comes with new challenges, for no two people are ever the same. I seek to capture not simply the fundamental likeness of my subject but realize subtle nuances that reveal insight and depth in the personality of each individual sitter.
